EMBARRASSING CONFESSION #14.28.2009

I don’t know what made me remember this today, but it just popped in my head out of nowhere…

When I was 10 years old, I was in an all girl hip-hop/rap group. (oh we’re just getting started). Our name? get ready… CAUTION! It was me and my 2 girlfriends; but they were 13 so they made me audition. I was soooo excited when I got in! All I can think of is the 3 of us going up to my mom with a straight face and singing her our first song. We were dead serious. And I even remember part of our rap. I’m getting chills of embarrassment even typing this. The rap lyrics I remember were:

“Caution! Walking down the street.
You better watch out, and step to the beat
Playing our music from town to town
Rockin’ and Rollin’ were gonna get down!”

My poor mom had to sit there with a straight face and watch us perform and we asked her to find us a manager.

Did anyone else have a band?

Peace and Love
Nxx

  1. Who were your two girlfriends in the band?

  2. hahaha yepp i Had a band with my 2 best friends called the “Lucky Duckies” We found t-shirts that said that and we wore them while we wrote songs about school and friends <3
    CANADA loves you Nicole <3

  3. HAHA unfortunately I did. Me and three of my friends were B.A.D (even came up with a catchy phrase…we’re so good, we’re BAD!) which stood for Bootylicious Afro Divas (pre-beyonce!) and we were all white. embarassing.

your story is so funny though! I can definitely see little nicole rapping :)

  4. OMG I got a flash back after reading your embarassing confession!!! Me and my mate had a ‘band’ when we were 12 – I can even remember the lyrics of our solo tune! Oh god here they are –
    “We are fish n chips,
and we are rapping to this,
    I’m fish, she’s chips,
    and we’re making the hits,
    running along side by side,
don’t stop us cos we’re are alive!”
    Holy shit – the mammeries!!
I feel like having a bag of chips now tho….

  5. Hey Nicole, I’m Jenn. Okay this is embarrassing but I can’t see the comment I left you a minute ago and at the risk of seeming ridiculous, I’m going to try it again…

I think you are a beautiful, stunning woman who stands out in the Hollywood bunch. You seem like such a loyal, intelligent person and I have so much respect for you.

I also have a lot of respect for you musically and where you come from. I watched your dad receive the Golden Note Award at the ASCAP Pop Awards last year and I was beaming. Congratulations to all of you. :)

I say this because I am a musician myself, and it was inspiring.

I would absolutely love it if you were to read my blog, comment even…I would so love to have a conversation with you. You are such a beautiful woman and I feel I have a lot to learn from you. My blog is http://www.jennfriedman.blogspot.com.

Thank you, and take care. :) Jenn.

  6. I didn’t have a band until I was much older, but I do remember singing my heart out to Ace of Base on the playground during recess. I still love to bust them out once in awhile. I tell my husband I’ve downloaded something like a new Radiohead track and when he gets all excited I hit play and blast out “The Sign.” That joke never gets old.

  7. We were called the “Locomotions” and we performed for the entire neighborhood. We would get up at 8:am and practice our dancing on weekend. Highly annoyed all the parents. Then on “Show” days we would make eveyone sit quietly and watch us. Fun times. Thanks for bringing back those memories!!!

  8. LOL… yep sure did it was with my two girfriends aswell and it was for school.. it was year 7 and we were really into salt’n'pepper.. omg you’ve made me ambarassed aswell now.. we had to make up a song and dance about a shampoo and we incorporate 3 of our names together… ready.. it was called ’samramarama’… it was so sad we even made it ourselves it ended up looking like green gunck..(mind you our teacher hated it and failed us) thanks Nicole for making me call my girlfriends now and laugh about it…
    keep the confessions coming sweets….
    xoxo
