Today I joined the Environmental Media Association & LA Unified School District as they launched their partnership with a groundbreaking ceremony at Helen Bernstein High School in Hollywood in support of organic gardens and greenery in schools across Los Angeles.
I’ve been a board member of the Environmental Media Association for four years now, and when I heard they were taking on this very powerful awareness program, I immediately wanted to help. The purpose of school is education, and to me, it doesn’t make sense to educate children in math, science, history, and literature, but not educate them in nutrition and their environment. This program will give me the opportunity to help mentor students in these very important subjects.
The other members of the board include Amy Smart, Maroon 5, Rosario Dawson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Maria Menounos, Lance Bass, Maggie Q, Olivia Wilde, Anna Getty, Mathew Rhys, and more. Each of us will be adopting a school to raise awareness for the program and help students with environmental education. Here are just a few ways I think you can begin to help in your own communities:

Thanks for the world!! Really wonderful.
Purchase organic, eat organic, live organic! <3
Love the organic life.

Our school just started a Farmer’s Market and we have gardens for the classes too. It’s so fun!
I’m a counselor at Bernstein HS in Hollywood and didn’t know you were here for the Garden Groundbreaking yesterday. Thanks for your support….our kids can use all they can get!
Hey Nichole-
Mud Barron who is in charge of the LAUSD garden program invited me to cover this great event on behalf of the garden media world- and I missed it because I had to be with my daughter that day!
I just want to thank you for caring about garden education and being a leader in your industry. Talk is cheap but you are walking the walk and carrying a spade! I give you props.
Let me know if you ever need any gardening advice- check out my blog at EdenMakers dot com. I’m in LA and am part of the LAUSD school garden program as well.
Hope to see you at the next school garden event.
