Help Haiti Heal
February 5, 2010 / 5 Comments

On Monday I shared in one of the most heartfelt and inspiring events of my life when I sang alongside nearly 80 musicians and actors in a re-recording of We Are the World to benefit Haiti. It was more than 20 years ago that I sat in the exact same room with my father surrounded by legendary talent for the first recording. It’s definitely a different experience though when you have an understanding of what brought these people together. When I was four I was just watching it and this time I was on the other side actually participating. It was important for me to bring Harlow there because my parents instilled the idea of giving back at a very early age and raised me in an environment where helping others was of utmost importance. This is how I raise my children as well.
I have included several photos from the recording session, as well as some tragic images of what’s left of Haiti. They’re brutal to look at but I am hoping they will inspire you to help in any way you can.
January 12, 2010 was a day that left thousands homeless, injured, frightened, hungry and lost. There’s medical care… but not nearly enough to tend to all the injuries; there’s food… but people are having to turn to violence for it; there’s water… but it’s scarce. It breaks my heart just thinking about all the orphaned children who are now left fending for themselves and are too young to even comprehend what’s going on.
Yes, millions of dollars have been raised, but that doesn’t mean we’re done and can now move on from this far away tragedy. People are still suffering and it’s our responsibility to help Haiti heal.
Please visit UNICEFUSA.org for more information on how you can contribute.

I Nicole!
It is so well written! WOW! : )))
You seem to explain the situation in Haïti exacly like I thing reality is. I saw some sad male violence on TV, from young people there trying to naturally feel respected. It’s a matter of education. I wish all the best thinkers, all true warriors on the planet, will together find a way, through time, to propose them a wise peaceful ways to live. I feel lucky my parents generously though me.
I felt you were proactive to help.
My father is very good friend with the Haitian Emergency Services Coordinator: Evans Lescouflair

I heard the best way to go there low profil is by flying to Santo Domingo (450$), then take the bus.
I will write back to you to tell you what we will do my father and I if you don’t mind.
I might go with my father or just by myself.
I’ m pretty good to stop fights. I feel I can be helpful.
There are some problems around the world and sometimes I’m sad about it, but one day, I said to myself that I was not necessarily responsable about some injustice on the planet.
I started to focus on people closer to me believing that a flap of a butterfly can have a worldwide impact.
But what happened in Haïti, it’s like if something happened to my so cool close neighbor.
Those people are so proud, polite and nice. That’s what I know from them.
All the taxi we take in Montréal are driven mostly by Haïtians.
A popular Montréal Haïtian singer (Luck Mervil) wrote a song, his brother sang it and they gave it to me for a movie I was working on (Bonzaïon).
Also, one of my best friend is half Haïtian. He never met his father but I guess his father was so cool, wise and nice like my friend.
I’m telling you all that just so you know, you got a fan here, that really truly cares about what’s going on over there.
Me, I’m single, healthy and I wish to participate for peace on earth.
Some people say wars were always part of human stories and they say: “So it will always be like that”. I can’t beleive this lie.
We have the power to stop all wars fast if we want. I dream it is possible for human to live a thousand years of peace.
If it happens, probably war will never come back in this beautiful world.
You are so beautiful on all the pics. My favorite is the one with your man.
Both of you seem very cool, nice and very generous.
I hope your familly is happy. I wish all your lifes are fun!
Thanks for the hope you are sharing for Haïti!
My deep respect ever for you and Joel.
I wish you the best luck!
Thanks for making me laugh with your funny tweets!
I hope you don’y mind me trying to participate to humour with all my best frenchy style!! LOL
Congradulation for your constant beauty and kindness!
I will always remember your nice way Nicole!
Please stay the same!
Thanks!
Take care!
xx
