Win Two Tickets to My Fashion Show6.3.2009

Tomorrow night I’ll be having a fashion show at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood that is being taped as part of a new MTV series called Styl’d.

Both men and women will be walking in the show — the men will be dressed in Pete Wentz’s clothing line, Clandestine Industries, and the women will be wearing  House of Harlow jewelry!  I’m so excited to have been given this opportunity, and I want to share it with you guys.

I’m giving away two tickets to the show.  Enter to win by telling me in a comment what fashion means to you and why I should choose YOU to attend tomorrow night.

The deadline to enter is 11:00am PT and then whoever I choose as the winner will receive an email shortly after telling them where they can pick up their tickets.

Good luck everyone!

(This contest applies only to people that will be in the Los Angeles area tomorrow night, Thursday, June 4th.  I’m so sorry I can’t include all of you.)

I have to say, I love Miami! Never has work been this much fun. This morning I was on the Regis & Kelly Show promoting my jewelry line. They are in Miami this week shooting at the pool of the Fontainebleau Resort. I managed to appear on their show, and get a tan at the same time!

I had the afternoon off & spent the rest of the day with my family just relaxing by the pool and then we had an early dinner out. It’s 90 degrees here and beautiful!

Tomorrow I’ll be doing a signing for my jewelry line and hopefully, if you live here in Miami, I’ll see you :)

Hi Everyone.  This week I will be in Miami! I will be promoting & doing a signing for my House of Harlow jewelry collection, & I am also going to be on Regis and Kelly.  I’ve done their show a few times, and they are such nice people.  I am excited to see them again and catch up on all that’s going on with me.

I’m looking forward to spending some time in the sun and on the beach, but I’m REALLY looking forward to meeting all of you in South Beach and introducing my line to you face to face.

I’ll be taking tons of pictures, and keeping you updated on my trip here on my website. So keep checking in, and I hope to see you all there! Look for me on the beach, I’ll be the hottie with the body ;)

“WELCOME TO MIAMI WHERE THE HEAT IS ON, ALL NIGHT ON THE BEACH TILL THE BREAK OF DAWN!”

EMBARRASSING CONFESSION #14.28.2009

I don’t know what made me remember this today, but it just popped in my head out of nowhere…

When I was 10 years old, I was in an all girl hip-hop/rap group. (oh we’re just getting started). Our name? get ready… CAUTION! It was me and my 2 girlfriends; but they were 13 so they made me audition. I was soooo excited when I got in! All I can think of is the 3 of us going up to my mom with a straight face and singing her our first song. We were dead serious. And I even remember part of our rap. I’m getting chills of embarrassment even typing this. The rap lyrics I remember were:

“Caution! Walking down the street.
You better watch out, and step to the beat
Playing our music from town to town
Rockin’ and Rollin’ were gonna get down!”

My poor mom had to sit there with a straight face and watch us perform and we asked her to find us a manager.

Did anyone else have a band?

Peace and Love
Nxx

Canada4.24.2009

As I mentioned earlier this week, I took a trip to Canada. First I flew into Toronto for a signing at Holt Renfrew, which is a really beautiful department store that carries House of Harlow.  It was really great!  I love doing signings because it’s really the only chance I have to come to face to face and thank everybody who has been supporting my line.  What’s also really great about that is that I have the chance to get feedback about the line — what people’s favorite pieces are and I get to see firsthand what people are gravitating to the most.

The next day I flew to Montreal to officially start work on my clothing and shoe line.  The company that I’m working with, Majestic Mills, is based out of Montreal.  They picked me up on their plane and when I got on the pilot let me sit up front with him and play co-pilot.  It was the most freeing, liberating, scary feeling I’ve ever had in my life.  I had the best time…though I’m not sure about everybody else on the plane.

I toured the majestic mills plant where my pieces will be constructed and then had several other meetings throughout the day to begin shaping my clothing line, maternity line (details to come soon), as well as shoes and accessories.  I was so excited to see the fabrics, the designs, and the first samples, as well as share our ideas for what the line will become.

It marked the beginning of seeing my dream of a clothing and accessories line come to life. I was only in Montreal for about four hours, and then went straight to the airport to fly home.  Montreal was such a beautiful city and now that i’ve officially started, I’m going to be spending a lot more time there.

My trip to Canada was great!  Everybody that I met was so nice and I really had the best time there, but to be honest I’m miserable without my family and was so excited to get home!

Off to Canada4.20.2009

Hi, I’m on my way to Toronto today for a meeting with Holt Renfew. They are huge supporters of House of Harlow and I am a huge fan of their stores. I’ll only be there for about 24 hours. Anything fun to do during the day?

Then I head to Montreal to meet with my new partners to start work on my line.  I’m so excited to start this new project!! This has always been a dream of mine and it’s finally coming true :)

BRITNEY SPEARS CONCERT4.19.2009

Friday night I went to the Britney Spears concert and had the time of my life! I have been a huge Britney fan since I was 16 and have been to all of her concerts. I think I went to 5 shows of her last tour.

I have been looking forward to seeing her back on stage for years, and it was amazing! It was really hard to get pictures because she never stood still; I yelled and asked her to but she was too busy tending to her 50,000 other fans :) .

Here’s some of my favorite pictures, it was the best concert I’ve seen in a while. No one puts on a show like Britney!

Recipe for Caramelized Black Pepper Chicken4.13.2009

This photo came from GOOP.com.

Last week I had mentioned on Twitter that I was cooking Caramelized Black Pepper Chicken for dinner and a lot of you asked for the recipe.  Well I’m no gourmet chef… I get all of my recipes off the internet.  This one I got off of FoodandWine.com and  Gwyneth Paltrow also has a great version of the recipe on her website as well.  It’s one of the more popular requests at my house, I’m actually cooking it again for dinner tonight!

Here’s the recipe so all of you can make it at home.

INGREDIENTS:

  1. 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  2. About 1/4 cup fish sauce (nam pla)
  3. 1/4 cup water
  4. 3 tablespoons rice vinegar
  5. 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  6. 1 teaspoon finely grated fresh ginger
  7. 1 teaspoon coarsely ground pepper
  8. 2 fresh Thai chiles, halved, or dried red chiles
  9. 1 tablespoon canola oil
  10. 1 shallot, thinly sliced
  11. 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  12. 4 cilantro sprigs

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a small bowl, combine the sugar, fish sauce, water, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, pepper and chiles.
  2. Heat the oil in a large deep skillet. Add the shallot and cook over moderate heat until softened, about 4 minutes. Add the fish sauce mixture and the chicken and simmer over high heat until the chicken is cooked through, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with the cilantro and serve.

I love to cook but I’m still learning and I need all the new recipes I can get — do any of you have any recipes for me to try?
