My Maternity Collection with A Pea in the Pod8.18.2009

Nicole-Richie-A-Pea-in-the-Pod-Maternity-Line-Launch-Event-0818093

Hi everyone. As I mentioned previously, I joined A Pea in the Pod to create a capsule collection, and this past Thursday APIP hosted an event celebrating its launch. It was held at the store’s Beverly Hills location and it meant so much to me that so many people came to see the line.

The line is titled “Nicole” and I created pieces that I would love to wear as an expectant mother. The collection includes items such as a peasant top, a caftan, a cascade cardigan, a patio dress and a maxi skirt.

You can now shop my collection at www.destinationmaternity.com. I hope you guys like it :)

Support Organic Gardens in Schools5.12.2009

nicole-richie-environmental-media-association-4-051209

Today I joined the Environmental Media Association & LA Unified School District as they launched their partnership with a groundbreaking ceremony at Helen Bernstein High School in Hollywood in support of organic gardens and greenery in schools across Los Angeles.

I’ve been a board member of the Environmental Media Association for four years now, and when I heard they were taking on this very powerful awareness program, I immediately wanted to help. The purpose of school is education, and to me, it doesn’t make sense to educate children in math, science, history, and literature, but not educate them in nutrition and their environment. This program will give me the opportunity to help mentor students in these very important subjects.

The other members of the board include Amy Smart, Maroon 5, Rosario Dawson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Maria Menounos, Lance Bass, Maggie Q, Olivia Wilde, Anna Getty, Mathew Rhys, and more. Each of us will be adopting a school to raise awareness for the program and help students with environmental education. Here are just a few ways I think you can begin to help in your own communities:

1. Visit your local farmers market, and purchase organic produce
2. Start a small garden in your own home or school
3. Share with friends and family the importance of eating natural/pesticide free foods
4. Visit the Environmental Media Associations website to find out more about how you can contribute to a better world. www.ema-online.org

Important Message: Please Watch!!!4.15.2009

nicole-richie-congo-video-make-a-change-041509

THE POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS.   Please watch this video to become aware of this horrifying crisis which has been brought to the attention of the Richie Madden Children’s Foundation.    We have been working closely with John Prendergast and learning about this situation in the Congo, but we cannot bring about change alone.

Please, I urge you to take the time to watch the film “The Greatest Silence”  (for info and purchase go to http://thegreatestsilence.org). The crisis in the Congo is fueled by conflict minerals, but I’ve included several steps below that we believe will also help to bring this vicious cycle to an end.  By using our power as consumers and activists, we ALL can make an impact!

  1. Join the Movement at www.raisehopeforcongo.org.
  2. Text “CONGOPLEDGE” (one word, no spaces) to ACTION (228466) or visit www.raisehopeforcongo.org/special-page/conflict-minerals to endorse the Conflict Minerals Pledge.
  3. Send emails to the industry leaders and ask them to be a leader on this issue by signing the pledge. Visit www.raisehopeforcongo.org/special-page/conflict-minerals to send your emails now.
  4. Call the White House switchboard at 202.456.1414 or write to President Obama at www.whitehouse.gov and ask him to appoint a special envoy for the Great Lakes region.

Check Out this Hand-Me-Downs Auction4.7.2009

nicole-richie-hand-me-down-auction

Hello everyone,

I wanted to tell you about a charity hand-me-downs auction that I’m participating in that starts today on the site handmedowns.com.  I’m proud to be donating some of Harlow’s baby clothes and other gear to this auction. The proceeds will go directly to The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation to help bring more opportunities to children in the US and abroad.

When I heard about this auction, I thought about how fortunate I am to be able to give Harlow so many things, from basic essentials to clothes. I have seen first-hand how many children lack the most basic items. I was so happy to clean out her closet and donate some of her hand-me-downs to this auction. I hope you will check it out.

I also encourage you to clean out your closets and garages and consider giving some of your stuff away too. There are so many families in need.  Thank you for taking a look–I hope you enjoy the things as much as we did!

And please go to handmedowns.com and help support our cause.

Nicole Richie announces the creation of a new collection that will be made up of specific categories such as apparel, accessories, and footwear.

“I am so excited to announce this new venture,” says Nicole Richie. “Majestic Mills and the Cytrynbaums’ expertise and impeccable reputation in the fashion industry makes them the perfect partners to help realize my design vision. I am devoted to creating unique and beautiful pieces that I would want to be enjoyed by everyone.”

Richie will design and oversee the entire collection which will capture and represent Nicole’s unique and innovative sense of style.

Brian and Rick Cytrynbaum, of Majestic Mills, manufacture and produce for more than 175 brands worldwide with its core competency in apparel and footwear. “Within our organization there are over 100 people dedicated to development alone, working on new fabrics, stitching, finishings and confections as well as lasts, heels and treatments on the footwear side,” said Brian Cytrynbaum.

They have dedicated a new team as an interface for product development solely for the Nicole Richie project.  With this exclusive team, the brand will be positioned at the affordable luxury price point, i.e. designer quality confections, finishes and fabrications at an affordable price. The aesthetic will appeal primarily to a consumer with a keen eye and an appreciation for high quality.

The yet to be named collection will be made available in Spring 2010 in limited, select stores worldwide.

On tap for water3.25.2009

nicolerichiepost-2

Joel, Benji, and I along with UNICEF held a fundraiser for the Tap Project at MyHouse in Hollywood. It was such an amazing evening. Earlier that evening, Joel and Benji appeared on Larry King Live to talk about TAP. The rest of our family watched from home and I took some pictures of them on TV.

Once we all arrived at MyHouse we were met by friends and people who wanted to learn about The Richie-Madden Foundation. The night was intimate, informative and fun.

Joel and Benji gave a very moving speech, and shared their personal photos of their trip to Central African Republic (CAR). The night ended with an auction, and people were bidding on trips to Hawaii and Aspen. But then we decided to auction off Benji :) . The women were bidding left and right, and a very lucky lady won a trip to Las Vegas with him.

The best part of the night was at the end of the auction when we told people about the opportunity to purchase actual hand water pumps (or “well hand pumps”) to bring water directly to the villages. I was so excited and humbled when our friends, one-by-one, started jumping up and offering to buy pumps!! That was the highlight of the evening, it literally brought tears to my eyes. We were able to sell 143 pumps and raised $100,000 among just a small group of friends! That alone is going to change children’s entire lives!

We had the best night, and I am so thankful for everyone who was willling to help. It really is crucial right now that we step in and help with the global water crisis. Please go here to donate. And learn MORE about the Richie-Madden Foundation.
