Check Out this Hand-Me-Downs Auction4.7.2009

Hello everyone,

I wanted to tell you about a charity hand-me-downs auction that I’m participating in that starts today on the site handmedowns.com.  I’m proud to be donating some of Harlow’s baby clothes and other gear to this auction. The proceeds will go directly to The Richie Madden Children’s Foundation to help bring more opportunities to children in the US and abroad.

When I heard about this auction, I thought about how fortunate I am to be able to give Harlow so many things, from basic essentials to clothes. I have seen first-hand how many children lack the most basic items. I was so happy to clean out her closet and donate some of her hand-me-downs to this auction. I hope you will check it out.

I also encourage you to clean out your closets and garages and consider giving some of your stuff away too. There are so many families in need.  Thank you for taking a look–I hope you enjoy the things as much as we did!

And please go to handmedowns.com and help support our cause.

Nicole

On tap for water3.25.2009

Joel, Benji, and I along with UNICEF held a fundraiser for the Tap Project at MyHouse in Hollywood. It was such an amazing evening. Earlier that evening, Joel and Benji appeared on Larry King Live to talk about TAP. The rest of our family watched from home and I took some pictures of them on TV.

Once we all arrived at MyHouse we were met by friends and people who wanted to learn about The Richie-Madden Foundation. The night was intimate, informative and fun.

Joel and Benji gave a very moving speech, and shared their personal photos of their trip to Central African Republic (CAR). The night ended with an auction, and people were bidding on trips to Hawaii and Aspen. But then we decided to auction off Benji :) . The women were bidding left and right, and a very lucky lady won a trip to Las Vegas with him.

The best part of the night was at the end of the auction when we told people about the opportunity to purchase actual hand water pumps (or “well hand pumps”) to bring water directly to the villages. I was so excited and humbled when our friends, one-by-one, started jumping up and offering to buy pumps!! That was the highlight of the evening, it literally brought tears to my eyes. We were able to sell 143 pumps and raised $100,000 among just a small group of friends! That alone is going to change children’s entire lives!

We had the best night, and I am so thankful for everyone who was willling to help. It really is crucial right now that we step in and help with the global water crisis. Please go here to donate. And learn MORE about the Richie-Madden Foundation.

World Water Week3.23.2009

water-week-featured-2

Hi Everyone,

As I said earlier, this week is World Water Week.

Over 4,000 children die every day from not having clean water. And it’s so simple to stop this.

Donating 1 dollar gives a child clean drinking water for 40 days.

Imagine what 10 dollars will do?

Go to TapProject.org to donate money or find out how you can get involved.

Joel and I always say we feel so blessed to live the life we live. We also realize that Harlow is blessed to get to live a life about one percent of all the children in the world get to live.

We think it’s so important that every child has the opportunity to experience the absolute best in health care and education. And that’s why we started Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation.

We got to thinking about all of these issues when I was pregnant with Harlow, when we launched the foundation.

Joel travels all over the world, including Africa, for the organization. For the past two years, I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding, so I tend to stay closer to home. However, I did take a magical and moving trip to Moscow, Russia, about which I will write more soon!

Whenever we decide on a new project or endeavor, Joel and I pick the things that are closest to our hearts.

Keep checking back here to stay updated on how we are helping children all over the world and how you can get involved!
